The Austin Public Works and Austin Transportation departments are developing improvements to help students walk and bike to school. The Safe Routes to School program and Austin Transportation have identified a project to improve routes to Gorzycki Middle School & Mills Elementary School by adding several new bikeway connections and improved pedestrian crossing along streets serving these schools and surrounding neighborhoods.
Project Background
Projects for the Gorzycki Middle School & Mills Elementary School were selected from recommendations in the District 8 Safe Routes to School Infrastructure report. Projects are evaluated based on demand, safety, equity and stakeholder input.

Together, these streets offer connectivity to, from and between Gorzycki Middle School and Mills Elementary School, as well as nearby trails and parks.
Funding for these improvements is made possible through the Safe Routes to School Program and the Bikeways Program of the 2016 Mobility Bond.
