Nothing puts more joy AND fear into my heart than hearing summer is almost here.
As a busy mom I am sooooo ready for no homework, no crazy after-school schedules, and just a slower pace of life. Not to mention a vacation or two. 🙂
Having to juggle a work-from-home schedule while making sure the kids are engaged, not whining about being bored, and not having me be a taxi service driving to and from friend’s houses.
THE SOLUTION – Summer Camps
My need for summer camps has changed over time, but I have ALWAYS incorporated camps into our summer schedule. From needing almost every week of the summer in 7+ hour camps to needing only 2-3 weeks of half-day camps, summer camps have always played an important role in our summers. Here’s why I love camps:
- They break up the summer and save your sanity
- They are a great way to have your kids try something new
- They keep your kids minds engaged & minimize the ‘summer slide’ (link to our blog)
- They are FUN!
WHERE TO FIND THEM
Summer camps are popping up everywhere and there are over 800 camps in Austin alone. Local magazines and google searches are a great starting point and word-of-mouth is always a great option too. There is also an amazing local resource that lists ALL camps available: www.nurturemychild.com . You can search by zip code, type of camp, ages and much more to see what is available. Don’t see a camp on the site – contact them and they will add it right away.
So turn off the alarm clock, break out the sunscreen and snacks,
because ready or not summer is HERE!!
